online writing retreat
guide to self publishing

New date added: Sunday, July 17th, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Do you need a creative kick up the bum?

Do you feel like the days, weeks and months are getting away from you?

Maybe you see other people writing daily, finishing their books and winning writing competitions and you wonder why that isn’t you?

Writing isn’t just for other people. It’s for you.

And if the last few years have taught me anything it’s that life is too damn short to put off doing the things you love.

Writing isn’t a pipe dream or a selfish hobby. It’s an instrinsic, magical part of you that deserves (and needs) to be nourished.

Please, let me guide you into the writerly world and make your project a reality!

What could you do with the support of a bestselling author?

Receive the permission slip you need to vocalise your ideas?

Finally put your novel structure down on paper and get feedback on how to improve it?

Start or finish a memoir and learn how to submit it to publishers?

Experiment with flash fiction or a genre you’re excited to explore?

All of this is possible for you.

What to expect

Welcome call – A private 90-minute mentoring call ahead of the retreat to fill me in on where you’re at and where you want to be. Tell me your story, your fears, your big dreams and we will make a plan together to make sure you get the most out of your day.

A personalised toolkit –  Based on our chat, I’ll put together a collection of resources, unique to your learning style and project, that you can dip into throughout the retreat. Think of it as a selection box to keep your creative cup filled up.

A roadmap – I’ll lay out an achievable plan for the day that you’ll receive ahead of time so that you can show up and tap out all your words without a fuss. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

On the day

Log onto Zoom at 10am and there will be a chance to meet your fellow writers and share what you’re working on. Being ‘seen’ by other writers is such a powerful moment, I can’t wait for you to feel it!

Timed writing sprints –  I’ll set 45-minute long writing sprints where the group will write together in silence. These short, manageable deadlines ensure you have the accountability you need to stay on track. A little bit of tough love never did anyone any harm, right?

Breaks – There will be regular 5-minute breaks (to nip to the loo, make a drink, pet the dog) as well as an extended break for lunch. At the end of the day you’ll get the chance to reflect on what you’ve done and congratulate everyone in the team.

Professional, experienced feedback –
Afterwards, you’ll send me a piece of work (up to 2500 words) and you’ll receive constructive written feedback from yours truly.

Follow up – A few weeks after you’ve read the feedback, we’ll have a 20-minute debrief call to talk about your work and set some goals for the future.

Why I created this retreat

For a decade I worked 50+ hour weeks in various jobs I hated. I thought a career in creativity was pipe dream. A lost cause. A total impossibility.

I thought to become a writer I’d have to go back to university or get an unpaid internship to get my foot in the door.

But hard work and consistent writing can change everything.

This course is a way for me to pass on what I’ve learned to the eager yet disheartened writers of the world. You deserve to bring your creation to life!

I’m not gonna upload my CV for ya, but here are the highlights:

  • I’ve written for major publications including Refinery29, Grazia, Metro and Reader’s Digest
  • I’ve published two books and am currently working on my third
  • I teach creative writing
  • I have no formal qualifications in writing (which is kind of cool when you think about it)
