If you’re looking for some inspiration before you start your healthy eating plan on January 1st, take a glance at my favourite vegetables to incorporate into your detox. Try not to think about what you can’t eat, and focus on the lovely array of fruit and vegetables you want to get onto your plate instead.
Carrots are an excellent source of fibre which keeps your body working and bowels functioning better. They also provide Vitamin A and antioxidants which help prevent premature wrinkling, dry skin and uneven skin tone. Eating raw carrots as a snack can keep your hands busy and satisfy sweet cravings. Try dipping them in humous for a more substantial meal.
Onions contain chromium which can help regulate your blood sugar levels, which is essential when trying to control your eating habits. They are a good source of Vitamin C which can help improve your immune system. Eating onions is also good for the heart and can lower blood pressure.
Red peppers are particularly rich in vitamins compared to other colours of the same vegetable. Vitamin A, C and K are provided as well as a dose of antioxidants. Recent research suggests that red peppers perform similarly to spicy peppers by increasing your metabolic rate allowing you to burn more calories.
Spinach is an excellent source of fibre and is full of flavonoids which act as antioxidants, flushing out toxins from the body. It also provides a low calorie source of iron which helps in the process of carrying oxygen around the body. Definitely an important one if you are looking to increase your exercise in January.
Courgettes help promote healthy eyes, heart and lungs. They are a great vegetable to have on hand if you are trying to lose weight as they have a high water content and are very low in calorie. This means you can eat a sizeable portion and feel full without worrying about the consequences.
