Today’s workout was a late one. I regularly go to a Body Pump class at 5.30pm and I find this motivates me to do a little cardio beforehand. As I am currently training for my first half marathon, I need as much practise as I can get. I’m finding it hard to motivate myself to do ‘long runs’ and the moment; 40 mins is enjoyable for me and I can do that without too much effort. My long run target this week is 7 miles and I know that will take well over an hour, so I just can’t face it!

Anyhow, I did some interval training on the treadmill because I really need to work on my speed. My peaks were 45 seconds of 8 minute miles interspersed with 45 seconds walking. I actually found the walking far too easy but the programme on the treadmill doesn’t let you increase your lowest speed without increasing your sprinting speed (I cannot run faster than 7 mph!) so next time I’ll definitely increase the speed for my recovery sections.

I also did some hill work on the bike, then a few minutes on the cross trainer and then it was time to set up for Body Pump. My performance in class was OK, I have increased my biceps weights as promised but found it much harder today than I did last week. Hopefully it was because I had already exerted myself in the gym. Squatting was absolute murder, but I was using my heaviest weights (total of 25 kilo) and I had already fatigued my legs from sprints. Safe to say I felt a little queasy after that track!

All in all a good workout. What have you guys been up to?

  1. I’m training for my first half marathon too! Currently working on distance rather than speed and yesterday worked up to four miles at 5.5 mph without a break, which I was super duper stoked for! I absolutely love your blog, it does such a good job of keeping me motivated, so thank you! 🙂

    1. Aw thank you it’s so nice to know people are reading what I write. Runnings is such a difficult thing to get into, because it feels so hard to see improvement. Well done on getting to 4 miles, you’ll be at 10k before you know it!
